Heather Koehler-Downing

Volleyball // 2007-2010


Heather Koehler-Downing is one of SSU’s all-time great volleyball attackers. In Koehler-Downing four years at Shawnee State she is the all-time kill leader with 1,834. The 2010 season for Koehler-Downing was her best yet, she tallied 549 kills and had 3.51 kills per set with a .329 hitting percentage. Koehler-Downing is tied for the most matches played in a career with 158 and is second in career kills per set with 3.44 and is the eighth in career hitting percentage at .322.

Heather Koehler-Downing was a third team NAIA All-American in 2009, was first team All-American Mideast Conference in 2009 and was first team All-Mid-South conference in 2010. She was named AMC Player of the Week on October 5, 2009.


Tyler Morgan

Men’s Basketball // 2009-2013


Tyler Morgan was a key player on Shawnee State men’s basketball team. Morgan is a Shawnee State career leader in both points and rebounds. He scored 1,779 points and grabbed 1,072 rebounds, he is the only SSU player to ever get both 1,000 career points and 1,000 career rebounds. Morgan’s best season was his senior season in 2012-2013, when he scored 16.0 points per game and averaged 10.1 rebounds per games, getting 302 on the year.

Tyler Morgan was second team All-AMC in 2009-10, along with being names to the AMC All-Freshman team. Morgan was then named second team All-AMC in 2011-12 and first team All-MSC in 2012-13. Morgan was named NAIA Player of the Week on January 10, 2011 and MSC Player of the Week three times (1/10/2011, 1/7/2013, 1/21/2013). He was names American Mideast Conference Freshman of the Year in 2009-10 and earned the Mid-South Conference Champions of Character award in 2011-12.


Tiffany Shanks-Moore

Softball, Soccer // 1992-1993, 1996 // 1991


Tiffany Shanks-Moore was a member of the 1996 NAIA National Runner-up Softball team. During her time here at SSU she was an outstanding player for the Bears. Shanks-Moore owns two of the top 15 hitting seasons in SSU history, hitting .444 in 1993 and .441 in 1996 after missing the 1995 season. The 1996 softball season would be one to remember, she hit .441 with an on-base percentage of .461 and a slugging percentage of .655 with 64 hits, 13 doubles, 3 triples and 4 home runs while scoring 43 runs and driving in 41 RBIs. She is third in career batting average a .443, fourth in on-base percentage at .469 and third in slugging percentage at .638.

Tiffany Shanks-Moore was a second team NAIA All-American in 1996, was named first team All-Mid-Ohio Conference twice and honorable mention All-MOC once. She won MOC Player of the Week on May 7, 1996 and was a Daktronics NAIA Scholar-Athlete in 1996.


Yvonne Bowman

Ralph Kavanaugh Home Team Award


Yvonne Bowman has been awarded the Ralph Kavanaugh Home Team Award for her service to the Shawnee State Athletics Department.  Bowman has been an integral part of the Golden Bears program for many years and has helped the program expand into what it is today. 

She has helped organize on and off campus events for the program and is visible at SSU events, in the community and among her peers. Her efforts have seen Shawnee State student-athletes connect with elderly residents of the area and helped to keep the community connected to the university.

In 2018 she was awarded the Red Cross Senior Hero award for her commitment to improving the lives and community of Scioto County, especially for her time and commitment to the Golden Bears organization.
